The Foundation
Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church was founded in 1902 by Christian laborers of faith, backed by prayer. The Pastor at that time was the late Reverend T. Wesley, and the church secretary was Brother Johnny Thomas. Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church was organized on Alameda Street in the Third Ward Community.
The church was later moved to its present location at 3029 Holman Street under the leadership of the late Reverend W. M. Sykes. Reverend Sykes was the Pastor of Rose Hill for forty-six years. The trustees were Brother D. Kemp, Brother L. H. Hall, Brother R. A. Robertson and Brother W. Lawson. The church clerk was Brother J. T. Thomas. Reverend Sykes and his members were blessed, and they worked untiringly to build a strong church. The church was rebuilt on August 23, 1925. After the death of Reverend Sykes, the Reverend M. T. Banks, Jr. was called to Pastor Rose Hill.
